Letters to a Young Poet

This is from an excerpt from the 7th letter written by Rainer Marie Rilke on the subject of solitude and love...
"And you should not let yourself be confused in your solitude by the fact that there is some thing in you that wants to move out of it. This very wish, if you use it calmly and prudently and like a tool, will help you spread out your solitude over a great distance. Most people have (with the help of conventions) turned their solutions toward what is easy and toward the easiest side of the easy; but it is clear that we must trust in what is difficult; everything alive trusts in it, everything, in Nature grows and defends itself any way it can and is spontaneously itself, tries to be itself at all costs and against all opposition. We know little, but that we must trust in what is difficult is a certainty that will never abandon us; it is good to be solitary, for solitude is difficult; that something is difficult must be one more reason for us to do it.
It is also good to love: because love is difficult. For one human being to love another human being: that is perhaps the most difficult task that has been entrusted to us, the ultimate task, the final test and proof, the work for which all other work is merely preparation. That is why young people, who are beginners in everything, are not yet capable of love: it is something they must learn. With their whole being, with all their forces, gathered around their solitary, anxious, upward-beating heart, they must learn to love. But learning-time is always a long, secluded time, and therefore loving, for a long time ahead and far on into life, is: solitude, a heightened and deepened kind of aloneness for the person who loves. Loving does not at first mean merging, surrendering, and uniting with another person (for what would a union be of two people who are unclarified, unfinished, and still incoherent?), it is a high inducement for the individual to ripen, to become something in himself, to become world, to become world in himself for the sake of another person; it is a great, demanding claim on him, something that chooses him and calls him to vast distances. Only in this sense, as the task of working on themselves ("to hearken and to hammer day and night"), may young people use the love that is given to them. Merging and surrendering and every kind of communion is not for them (who must still, for a long, long time, save and gather themselves); it is the ultimate, is perhaps that for which human lives are as yet barely large enough."...

"And one more thing: Don't think that the great love which was once granted to you, when you were a boy, has been lost; how can you know whether vast and generous wishes didn't ripen in you at that time, and purposes by which you are still living today? I believe that that love remains so strong and intense in your memory because it was your first deep aloneness and the first inner work that you did on your life. "

In the Arms of the Beloved

I pray to rest in the arms of the beloved
I yearn for a return
to the merging in His Love
In every breath that I take,
there is that possibility
To enter the state that
we all seek and desire,
and yet it is right there...
The entry has been there for eternity.
The journey is always within...
How long I have searched for it ?
I have entered many times
lost my way back,
and returned again...
I have tasted being in the arms of the Beloved
spinning with the stars and galaxies
in eternal bliss and inner peace.

Just remember to find the Beloved.
Remember to find your way back.
Especially if you have been there before.
Nurtured in this precious connection of the heart.
Reflected in all and existing outside of time.
The Beloved is everywhere and in everything.
Just look with the depth of your eyes
from your infinite soul and you will see...
In a warm smile from a child,
in a heart shaped rock on your path
in the white clouds drifting above or
the tree bending in the wind.
Your Beloved beckons you
with Love and Grace.
Pause, breath in..
You are there..
Always and forever you are invited
to rest in the Arms of the Beloved.

Some Kiss We Want

Some Kiss We Want
By Rumi

There is some kiss we want with
our whole lives, the touch of
spirit on the body.
Seawater
begs the pearl to break its shell.
And the lily, how passionately
it needs some wild darling!

At
night, I open the window and ask

the moon to come and press its
face against mine.
Breathe into
 me.

Close the language-door and

open the love window.
The moon

won't use the door, only the window.

A Prayer

Calling all angels,
all angels of Love,
to come down to earth.
A sacred army of helpers
supported by the prayers
of your servants of Love.
Mankind is lost
Mankind is sleeping
and in this sleep
we are destructive.

Help us reclaim our divinity
enlist more of us to serve you.
To re-open the hearts
of mankind
To love
To compassion
To wisdom.

May we continue to
offer our Love
through kindness
generosity
and healing.
All of us united
in service to our creator.
This is our only hope
and our only way to salvation.

With your help,
May it be so.
Amen.

The Love of God

"The love of God, unutterable and perfect,
flows into a pure soul the way that light
rushes into a transparent object.
The more love that it finds, the more
it gives itself; so that, as we grow clear and open, the more complete the joy of heaven is. And the more souls who resonate together, the greater the intensity of their love, and, mirror-like, each soul reflects the other." Dante Alighieri
